updating config on win7

Post by JackR »

Hi Jussi

Hopefully, you can help me with this. I'm moving to a new computer running win7. I want to copy my configuration from my previous XP computer. I tried the following

1) did a standard install of Zeus

2) patched the install to version 3.97n-beta16 by copying the patch files to program files(86)\zeus

3) Invoked Zeus and everything was as expected.

Now my problem
I copied the folders zConfig and zScript from my xp computer to a flash drive. I then copied these folders on the win7 machine to:

c:\ProgramData\Xidicone\Zeus

That didn't work so I closed Zeus. I copied this time to
c:\users\[user_name]\AppData\Roaming\Xidcone\Zeus

I did this for my user name and also All Users

It still doesn't work.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
Jack

On further investigation, it looks like a little of my configuration made it. The ftp configuration, the panes available in the navigator window, and the help config are present. None of my templates, customization of files types, tools, etc are present.

Thanks!

Hi Jack,

As you are finding the Zeus configuration model on Windows 7 is much more complicated than what is was for Windows XP.

Unfortunately there is no way around this, since Microsoft changed the user permissions on folders between these two systems :(

To better help with this process refer to this link: http://www.zeusedit.com/zforum/viewtopic.php?t=2719

If you follow these instructions to the letter they should work.

Please let me know if they don't.

Cheers Jussi.

Hi Jussi,

The procedure does work for upgrading a win7 system. It doesn't work to move the config from xp to win7. I just took the few hours to manually configure the win7 system.

Thanks!
Jack
