ctags help (sigh).

Post by raz »

disclaimer: newbie

I would like to use the exuberant Ctags program, but am unable to determine
how I replace the current (default) ctags with the exuberant one.

Stunningly good editor, especially for $35! (I just downloaded it yesterday).

It is still shareware (I'll fix that soon) and the version is latest (3.93 b)

help appreciated.

Hi Raz,
I would like to use the exuberant Ctags program, but am unable to determine how I replace the current (default) ctags with the exuberant one.
This is very easy todo :)

Point the Windows Explorer at the Zeus installation directory and rename the xtags.exe to something like xtags.old.exe. Next take the new ctags.exe and copy it to the Zeus install directory, renaming it to xtags.exe.

But one thing to note is Zeus will only generate the new tags if the file has changed. So to force Zeus to recreate the tags file you will need to either touch all the source files or alternatively delete the Zeus browser information file. The browser info file is found in the same directory as the project and has a .zbi extension.
It is still shareware (I'll fix that soon) and the version is latest (3.93 b)

There is no rush to register :) The shareware runs fully functional for 60 days and I strongly recommend taking at least half if not all that time to fully evaluate Zeus.

Feel free to post questions to this forum should you have any problems using or configuring the editor.

Cheers Jussi

Just curious, why would one want to change to the exuberant Ctags program? Is this a good idea for everyone to do?
