Selection dropped when doing a search

Post by jmangasarian2 » Sun May 04, 2008 5:23 pm

I am using Zeus 3.96o on WindowsXP. I am using the Brief keyboard.
I select some text using the ALT-M, arrow over to select some text, then do an Alt-S and seach from some char before the end of the line.

What happens is my original selection is thrown away and the char I am searching for is selected.

What I had expected and what has worked for me with other brief editiors is that my original selection up to and including the char I searched for would be selected.

Unfortunately I am not really sure what you mean by original selection being thrown away :?:

It's has been a very long time since I used the original Brief so I might more than likely forgotten how it actually worked ;?

This is what I did:
  1. Set Brief as active
  2. Opened a document
  3. In the middle of the first page and in the middle of that line start marking with Alt+M
  4. Use the keyboard right arrow to selected a few characters[/B]
  5. Alt+S to bring up the search dialog.
What I had expected and what has worked for me with other brief editors is that my original selection up to and including the char I searched for would be selected.

For me the marked area is retained and the search dialog is displayed with the highlighted text displayed in the find text entry field.

If I had selected more than one line then the search text would still have been retained but the Market text only option of the search dialog would have been selected.

<this is the original line>

select the "<this" with the ALT-M and then arrow over
then ALT-S and seach for ">"
Now the whole line should be selected.

You might ask why would I want to do this? The answer is that when you are creating a macro you often need to search for a delmiter and keeping the selection of text, so that one can copy or delete is important.

Ok, I now understand what you mean. I must admit I don't remembered using this Brief feature, but it is definitely a nice feature to have ;)

Unfortunately the current searching does not support this feature :(

But I think it should be easy enough to add a Maintain seletion check box to the find and replace dialogs to allow for this behaviour ;)

This feature has been added to the latest Zeus release found here: http://www.zeusedit.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2118
