When I select a recently opened file from the files menu
Zeus locks up while it reopens the file, the main window starts flashing, the windows toolbar shows multiple zeus icons that appear and disappear rapidly, and zeus remains unresponsive until it has loaded the file, which can take several minutes.

After this has occurred, any other files i reopen or open, open fine.

I can fully understand why Zeus would remain unresponsive as the file is loaded.

But the real question, why is the file taking several minutes to load

I tried loading a few ftp files from the recent files menu and for me they open in less than 3 seconds.

As the file is loaded the Zeus status bar shows what is happening and for me that status bar indicates that most of the time is spent connecting to the server.

By this do you mean a SFTP drive running in the Windows shell or accessing the file using the FTP built into Zeus.

If it is the former then it sounds like it is taking time to establish the connection.

If it is in the shell then Zeus should not know any different as the file should appear like any other local file.

There have been no real changes to the way Zeus loads files for many years now.

After this has occurred, any other files i reopen or open, open fine.

This sounds like something about that connection is getting cached and hence the response time is better the second time around.
