Running Zeus on Windows Server 2008

Post by jussij »

If you try to run Zeus on Windows Server 2008 you will more than likely get a Close Application dialog error message.

In the Details section of this dialog the following reason will be given for the application error:
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: zeus.exe
Application Version: 3.97.25.0
Application Timestamp: 4b8e64cc
Fault Module Name: StackHash_1703
Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0
Fault Module Timestamp: 00000000
Exception Code: c0000005
Exception Offset: 01c8b530
OS Version: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.272.36
Locale ID: 3081
Additional Information 1: 1703
Additional Information 2: 2264db07e74365624c50317d7b856ae9
Additional Information 3: 1344
Additional Information 4: 875fa2ef9d2bdca96466e8af55d1ae6e
Even though these details don't clearly indicate it, the reason for the error is the Windows DEP Security Layer has stopped the Zeus application from running.

To fix this you will need admin rights to the server and you will need to give Zeus a special DEP exception[/] as following:

Step 1: Type in the following to bring up the Control Panel:
C:\Windows\system32>control sysdm.cpl

Step 2: Go to the advanced settings as shown below:

Step 3: In the DEP Settings add Zeus as a DEP exception as shown below:

With this DEP exception Zeus should now work as expected ;)
