patch 3.96r to 3.97

I upgraded from 3.96r to 3.97 successfully but it has invalidated my license code.
Is this the expected behaviour?

There should not be any problems upgrading from any 3.96 version to the 3.97 version. These are all free upgrades.
Make sure you are correctly entering the activation key that was sent to you by RegNet.
If the software still does not activate send us an e-mail containing the activation key and the name, company name and approximate date of the order.
