Zeus can now run on Linux Ubuntu using Wine.

In the same way that Zeus was fully re-written when it moved from the version 2.xx to version 3.xx, a similar re-write was planned for the 4.xx release, using something like wxWindows. This re-write would have enabling a simultaneous Windows, Mac and Linux/Unix release.

But in recent years, with the ever increasing number of free IDE's that run on Windows/Mac and Linux the demand for yet another IDE (let alone a commercial one) is every shrinking and the one to two years of man-development required for such a a re-write is pretty much out of the question

So, unfortunately this means that as things stand the only platform that will be supported is the Windows, Win32 platform

There may be many, but having one editor that will run on both, the same way, that is as good as Zeus is very rare.

I'd be willing to help with the wx port (I am developing in wx now).

I am willing to grovel... and help.

When using Zeus in Wine, the ALT key combinations caused funny response, sometimes working, sometimes changing the focus to the menus, etc.. At least on Virtual Box, pressing the (left) "Windows" key and the ALT key at the same time, then the other key works fine. This is essential for those that use Brief bindings. For example, ALT-L becomes WIN-ALT-L.

I am working with Ubuntu 12.04 with Wine 1.6.1.

I did a search of winehq.org and came across this link which suggests this might be an issue with the Linux window managers.

It also offers up this as a possible workaround:

The Clone tool uses the ALT key in a way that conflicts with many window managers. Here's how to fix that:

• Ubuntu or Fedora: Go to System -> Preferences -> Windows, and under Movement Key, pick "Super" instead of "Alt".
• Kubuntu: Go to the K Menu -> System Settings -> Look and Feel -> Windows, and under Movement Key, pick "Super" instead of "Alt".
• Suse with GNOME: Go to Computer -> Control Center -> Look and Feel -> Windows, and under Movement Key, pick "Super" instead of "Alt".
• Suse with KDE: Go to Gecko Menu -> Favorites -> Configure Desktop -> Desktop -> Window behavior -> Window Actions -> "Inner Window, Titlebar & Frame", pick "Meta" instead of "Alt".
